Northwestern Mutual is looking for a Product Manager to join the Financial Planning Algorithm team. We are on mission to re-imagine financial planning and it all starts with the tools that our planners use every day to deliver advice that moves clients to action.  

 

The role requires ownership of solving complex problems, ability to get things done, and strong product, relationship and stakeholder management skills. This position will work very closely with the engineers, user-interface product teams, advice strategy team, data analysts and users, with the common goal of improving the financial planning software.  

  

What you’ll do:  

  • Work cross functionally with engineers, designers, and stakeholders to prepare requirements for upcoming sprints and release on a regular basis.  
  • Build use cases and user stories around a product, communicate them effectively.  
  • Know your users, drive research to make our features align with problems.  
  • Analyze competitors, evaluate vendors, and come to the table to solve problems.  
  • Define roadmap for engagement tools, aligned with user-interface partner teams.  
  • Inform product decisions with quantitative data and experimentation.  
  • Develop and maintain strong working relationships and strategic partnerships with external and internal key stakeholders/customers across groups and/or business units to maximize effectiveness and influence.  
  • Partner with engineering to prioritize the roadmap, work through challenges, and build, test, launch and optimize the new product experience.  

 

Qualification: 

  • Product Management experience - driven product development with cross functional teams is a plus. 
  • Product intuition - strong instincts about what makes great product. 
  • Technical chops - You don’t need to know how to code, however tech experience is a plus.  This will help you gauge what technologies work best for the job, factoring in scope.  Additional technical experience using tools like JIRA to manage an engineering scrum backlog helpful. 
  • Financial planning software experience - Having used financial planning software is a must.  If you have a CFP designation, big plus. 
  • Data driven - You know how to leverage data to make good decisions when confronted by ambiguity. You may not have all the answers upfront but you know how to find them. 
  • Highly effective communication skills - presenting to large groups, convincing people to run towards goals, and managing multiple stakeholders. 
  • Problem Solver - The successful candidate will be able to anticipate potential issues within the product and will develop solutions to solve.
