Synopsis:   Reporting to head of IT Governance, the Governance Engineer is responsible for supporting all cross-functional capabilities required to ensure the organization operates well.  These include Risk, Compliance, Security, and Process / management, as well as department-wide standards.  As a key member of the IT Governance team, the Governance Engineer is responsible for managing and tracking tasks and activities that are part of various tactical and strategic governance activities.  The Governance Engineer is comfortable holding people accountable for their responsibilities within IT Governance areas of responsibility.

 

Responsibilities:

R1:  Shape the business and technology strategy 

  • Enforce Technology principles and standards for strategy and architecture.
  • Identify and escalate problems related to IT Governance.

R2:  Evolve technology to meet and exceed needs

  • Enforce engineering standards.
  • Ensure that delivery and risk machines and operating in a good way.
  • Ensure that risk related standards are met.
  • Develop an understand of enterprise standards and their impact on the IT organization.

R3:  Deliver technology services according to business needs

  • Enforce operational standards, which consider risk security and compliance
  • Ensure that Service Levels are met by identifying and escalating breaks.

R4: Contribute to high performing governance team and to the technology community

  • Aid in reducing administrative inefficiencies and improving reporting

R5:  Manage IPS Technology’s financials, compliance, security and risk

  • Provide regular updates contributing to a synthesis of the state of compliance, risk and security.
  • Provide support for compliance activities and liaise with internal/external auditors on collecting and collating findings requiring actions.

 

Non-technical skills (aka abilities)

  • Detail oriented
  • Machine and process thinking
  • Synthesis abilities and analytical skills, e.g. able to derive root and proximate causes from detailed information.
  • Some knowledge of relevant engineering and operational methods and ability to customize them to the NM environment
  • Familiar with relevant regulatory regimes
  • Broad understanding of the purpose of governance standards
  • Comfortable with ambiguity and change

 

Technical skills

  • Responsible for detailed task management.
  • Ability to create and manage knowledge articles.
  • Ability to do some tooling implementation (SharePoint, Confluence, etc.)
  • Familiarity with industry trends
  • Knowledge of Compliance in FS industry
  • Knowledge of risk methodologies
  • Knowledge of technology security
  • Knowledge of corporate governance and PMO standards
  • Knowledge of engineering methodologies (e.g.  Waterfall, Agile, etc.
