What's the role?

This position is responsible for developing and delivering talent strategies and programs to Northwestern Mutual Field Distribution system that span from acquisition, early development and leadership life cycle.  Individual will actively co-creating with field associations on deliverables to support talent priorities.  Additionally, the individual will bring outside perspective and trends for external talent strategies and incorporate into NM’s field talent strategies.  Additional responsibilities include establishing the point of view on talent philosophies ensuring diversity strategies are integrated into the talent agenda for NM’s field system. 

  • Talent Agenda, Strategies and Deliverables:  Partners and consults with assigned NM’s Career Distribution colleagues, enterprise partners, and Field associations to determine how to develop and activate the talent agenda and strategies for the distribution system, while keeping in alignment with enterprise organizational/talent strategies.  Provides ongoing performance consulting and expertise on the full suite of organizational/talent strategies in order to propose and deliver solutions to meet short-term and long-term needs.  Participates in design and redesign of talent programs as necessary.   
  • Identification and Development of Field Leadership talent:  Maintains an enterprise view of talent needs and capabilities with focus on Field Leadership. 
  • Ensure Run operations and strategies are aligned and prioritized to strategies
  • Ensure appropriate alignment with HO talent strategies, philosophies and tools.

  • 10+ years of increasing levels of responsibility in business/human resources with varied experienced in talent management, leadership development, learning, D&I. 
  • Candidate must possess a Bachelor’s degree.  Advanced degree preferred.
  • Business acumen – the successful candidate brings a human capital background which is underpinned by clear business acumen.  He/She presents recommendations which are aligned to the business strategy.  He/she is able to articulate an independent point-of-view, and is comfortable appropriately challenging conventional practices.
  • Systems view – to bring organization design, people effectiveness and change enablement to drive integration and transformation.
  • Think strategically and execute – the successful individual operates effectively in both strategy and execution mode.  The candidate must be strategically oriented, yet tactically focused on execution.
  • Influencing and relationship skills – candidate is capable of building and sustaining excellent relationships at multiple levels in the organization.  He/She uses relationships not only to gain a better understanding of the business needs, but also to strategically accomplish goals.  Has well honed influencing skills. 
  • Analytical problem solving skills – the candidate is adept at analyzing data and drawing insights to assess the organization, recognize potential issues, diagnose root causes, and craft viable solutions. 
  • Program Management - Proven experience in leading multiple projects, managing staff and projects to meet deadlines and quality expectations including ability to scope out length and difficulty of tasks and projects
  • Ability to build relationships, influence without authority, and gain confidence and credibility with high-level business clients across the company.
