What's the Role?

NM’s Public Investment team seeks a Structured Products Credit Specialist for its portfolio management team that oversees $35+ Billion in Structured Products across ABS, CMBS, CLOs and MBS. The candidate will research, identify and make recommendations for investments subject to oversight and coordination with the current portfolio management team. A focus on risk-adjusted return and relative value is required as the portfolio is managed for total return against industry benchmarks.

Responsibilities

An understanding of macroeconomic conditions and securitized sector characteristics serves as the foundation for investment analysis and portfolio construction. Performing multifaceted, detailed reviews of transaction structures and participants, origination standards, obligor and collateral quality and cash flow characteristics among other factors is required to identify and compare the relevant risk-adjusted return characteristics of investments.

Experience in CMBS / Commercial Real Estate and CLOs / High Yield Bank Loans is highly relevant to the near-term focus. Market research and investment analysis will be performed in a team setting and investment recommendations made after due diligence, modeling and stress testing of investment opportunities. Relative value discipline will be employed in issue selection. Investments will be modeled and monitored with active surveillance discipline.

The candidate will serve on the Structured Products Team in the Public Investment Department and report to the Managing Director / Head Investment Grade Cross Sector Portfolio Manager.

Qualifications

We are looking for an experienced Structured Finance professional with demonstrated understanding of fixed income securities and investment management. They should have experience analyzing structured transactions and disclosure documents, making relative value assessments and be comfortable making presentations regarding potential investment opportunities. Demonstration of prior investment performance is a valuable consideration.

  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, accounting, engineering, mathematics or related field.  Masters of Science or Masters of Business Administration (MBA) with an emphasis on finance, accounting, economics, statistics or other related areas. CFA designation or progress towards attaining the CFA designation is a plus.
  • Familiarity with relevant investment technology and analytics is very important as well. (Bloomberg, Intex, Trepp, BlackRock Aladdin Risk)
  • More than five years of experience conducting financial analysis in a relevant sector, with CMBS or CLO focus a positive. 
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills.
  • Demonstrates effective oral and written communication skills. 
  • Works well independently, while promoting and contributing to a strong team dynamic. 
  • High level of initiative, motivation, leadership.
