What's the role?

The Senior Director of Content will design, build, manage and mentor an innovative, high performing content team, ensuring results are delivered that support Northwestern Mutual's Marketing-wide objectives. As the Senior Director of Content you will create and execute insights-based and data-driven content strategies for Northwestern Mutual that support the brand strategy and improve our digital experience, which will drive a qualified audience to our site and increase engagement across the funnel.

 

Responsibilities include:

  • End-to-end responsibility for all content published on learnvest.com, ensuring it is differentiated and resonates with target audience.
  • Oversee the development and execution of the content/editorial calendar and production, ensuring all content is on brand, within budget and high quality.
  • Leverage segmentation study, insights and content performance to deliver a personalized, dynamic and valuable digital client experience that increases logins and engagement with the site.
  • Partner with Sr. Director of Consumer PR and Social media to deliver unique, breakthrough, and highly engaging branded content in support of our integrated marketing campaigns and social media strategy. This content should increase relevance and affinity for our brand and improve our KPIs.
  • Deliver on real time marketing opportunities in partnership with Consumer PR and Social team.
  • Collaborate with Sr. Director of Digital Marketing and Media to support larger scale integrations, partnerships and media strategies/plans.
  • Grow our email lists and engagement of our newsletters with timely and meaningful content.
  • Create videos that engage and inspire our audience to take action.
  • Create innovative editorial series that resonate with our audience and are highly shared.
  • Establish calendars, workflows, analytics reporting and clear KPIs that measure the effectiveness of our content and ladder up to overarching marketing goals.
  • Oversee execution of the SEO content strategy and ensure high quality content is posted and meeting KPIs.

  • 10 years of experience delivering content that drives large scale social engagement and growth across all social platforms. Successful building and executing real time marketing capabilities to increase engagement and earned media.
  • 5 years of proven experience building and leading high performance content teams. You teach, empower, but take the reigns when you need to. Strong ability to unite a team and motivate and empower every individual on your team. You are committed to each individual’s growth and path within the company. Ability to manage through ambiguity and establish process and structure to help the team operate more effectively and efficiently. Sets appropriate KPIs for the function and all initiatives that accurately measure the effectiveness our content. A positive force who leads with optimism, especially in the face of challenges.
  • Successful track record building brands and improving the customer experience through insights-driven and meaningful content experiences that resonate with the target audience across every touch point.
  • Exceptional at bringing a brand platform to life in all content pieces and is a master storyteller.
  • A consumer and brand centric executive who understands the Northwestern Mutual and LearnVest target audiences, how they differ, how to speak to them, engage and inspire them at different points of the journey. Goes beyond traditional demographics and drills into data and behavioral + attitudinal insights to create content strategies and experiences that increase brand affinity and engagement.
  • Successful working as part of an integrated marketing team and supporting all functions (brand, media, PR, social, digital marketing, CRM) with content that improves all KPIs. Deep understanding of all functions and how content can drive successful outcomes. Understands process and work flows for integration points with team members across marketing. 
  • Strong interpersonal skills and able to work well in a team environment with a proven track record in driving partnerships and relationships with internal marketing functions / partners, as well as synergies and collaboration across integrated marketing teams.
  • Data-driven and capable of pivoting in response to how consumers are responding to our content.
  • In the know with what's cool and what’s trending and has an ability to translate that for our brand in real time.
  • A highly strategic, creative, and innovative entrepreneurial spirit who is self-motivated and constantly seeking out and identifying opportunities to drive the business forward without being told when and what to do.
