Do you love making complicated stuff simple by using the perfect words? As a UX Writer, you will be part of the Product Design team – focusing on creating clear, concise, and actionable content throughout a number of client experiences.
Being a stellar writer is a given. It’s also imperative you understand UX, technology and the role content plays in design.
Role Responsibilities:
- Create content for digital products that power the growth of Northwestern Mutual and impact the way we communicate with each and every client
- Write clear and concise product content – everything from microcopy to broad positioning and strategy to tooltips and notifications
- Blend your UX writing, storytelling and content design skills
- Work closely with the content team to shape and develop the voice and tone of each product as well as help define imperative style guidelines
- Advocate for content standards within the immediate team and across the organization at large
- Collaborate with research, UX and visual designers, engineers, product managers, and many others to conceptualize content-focused experiences and bring your work to life
- Dig into user research and competitive analysis to identify, inform, and validate your work
- Use logic, hard data, and empathy to inform content choices and always advocate for the user
- Advocate for solutions that balance the needs of customers with business objectives
- Communicate your findings, recommendations, and content specifications through deliverables such as content matrices, user scenarios, presentation decks, comps, prototypes, and style guides
- Describe and present your methods, explorations, and rationale along with a recommendation to peers and team partner
Minimum Requirements:
- 3 -5 years professional experience with UX writing or content strategy on web sites or applications, especially consumer-facing and transaction-focused interfaces
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field – Design, English, Communications, Journalism, HCI
- Knowledge of mobile first and responsive content strategies
- Understanding of the development, sourcing, and governance of both structured and unstructured content types
- Experience with the UX design lexicon and process
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Self-starter who plans and executes work with minimal supervision (but you’ll always have support)
- An appetite to learn and grow, both as a person and as a professional
