Asst Director- Diversity and Inclusion

What's the role?
This position plays an important role on the D&I team and will work across the function performing various work as is expected for a leader. However, this position is primarily responsible for executing Northwestern Mutual’s strategy to increase and advance underrepresented talent in the Home Office community. Audiences range from senior executives to employees across all functions, as well as external consumers, field representatives, and potential talent.
Principal Accountabilities for the role are:
Advancing underrepresented talent
- Develop and execute the Home Office’s strategy, including maturing existing practices and developing new practices and programs that continue to position the company as a leader in advancing underrepresented communities, both internally and externally.
- Partner closely and successfully with key stakeholders across the company, especially Talent Acquisition and Talent Management, to ensure the viability and long-term success of all programs and talent pipeline development efforts, working across the organization to create plans, monitor progress/measure results, making adjustments as needed.
D&I Consulting/Coaching
- Consult, coach, and provide D&I support to senior leadership.
- Partner closely with HR Business Partners to support the build of D&I plans for their functions that drive YoY results.
- Analyze data and highlight areas of risk and opportunity on an ongoing basis to senior leadership.
- Assist VP of D&I with key presentations, programs, and other strategic priorities that drive inclusion and diversity across the organization.
D&I education and learning
- Design and facilitate education, presentations, and thought leadership pieces on D&I topics of varying levels of complexity for all levels of the organization.
- Partner with Learning & Development as a subject matter expert to integrate D&I into existing and future company education materials.

- Bachelors Degree
- Five plus years of significant diversity and inclusion experience, to include expertise in recruiting and advancing underrepresented talent, including developing the programs and initiatives that support advancement.
- Ability to develop practical D&I strategies and execution plans in a variety of business environments and drive accountability for results.
- Must have demonstrated being able to drive cultural change in an organization.
- Strong listening and relationship management skills.
- Ability to deal with ambiguity.
- Ability to influence change through others.
