Lead Software Engineer

Reporting to the Engineering Director, the Lead Software Engineer is a key leader of our technology team.  As a technical leader, you will be designing ways to deliver reliable, performant and scalable software systems that take the customer and field experience to the next level.  Be part of a growing team leading the company in innovation and quality.

 

The Lead Software Engineer is responsible for:

  • Architecting, designing and developing solutions to support key business initiatives
  • Contributing knowledge expertise of critical technologies to align with team’s strategic vision
  • Establishing project structure, design patterns, and coding standards across projects
  • Working with business, product partners and tech leads in defining solution options
  • Leading work streams that cross technical divisions or business domains
  • Leading teams in design sessions, refinements, troubleshooting or refactoring initiatives

 

A great candidate will meet the following requirements:

  • BA, BS, MS in Computer Science, Engineering or related technology field (or relevant experience)
  • 8+ years of hands-on, professional experience building highly available, low latency, distributed systems
  • Extensive knowledge of system architecture, object-oriented design and design patterns
  • Experience in working across teams and across divisions
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate technical concepts to both developers/engineers as well as non-technical stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate complexity using diagrams and visualization
  • Solid practical experience with multiple integration patterns and tradeoffs
  • Significant experience in performance tuning of applications and systems
  • Demonstrated experience developing systems using cloud and micro-services architecture
  • Working experience in a DevOps, Package Management, Automation and CICD environment
  • Experience adhering to Agile methodologies 
  • Experience developing web services using Java or .NET
  • Ability to balance tradeoffs in designing systems and applications
  • Solid understanding of data concepts and the relationships between information and application architectures

 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in Node.js
  • Familiarity with event-based systems
  • Comfortable working with ELK
  • Familiarity with GraphQL
  • Insurance domain knowledge
