What's the role?

Students participate in the intern program within the firm’s Investment Client Services department which provides the student with hands-on experience through teamwork and collaboration, as well as individual work assignments. Interns participate in a wide range of learning and development activities including job shadows, attending various speaking engagements and events designed to expose interns to multiple areas of the firm. Interns also have an opportunity to network with senior leaders across the firm, attend various social and work-sponsored events and are also encouraged to engage in team volunteer opportunities within the community.   

 

The Investment Operational Services Team provides valuable insights into the actions of Northwestern Mutual’s investment operations and procedures analytics to support the strategy.  The team focuses on the operational efficiency metrics and aligns to multiple efforts to track and trend to our goals.  Projects regularly undertaken by the team also include analyzing existing processes and building out workflows and implementing system and process changes to increase efficiency.

 

We have an exciting opportunity for a highly analytical and energetic undergraduate student majoring in Finance to join our team and have an immediate impact on how Northwestern Mutual views its performance relative to the broader financial services industry.

 

Role and Responsibilities:

  • Working with other appropriate departments, participate in the analysis and interpretation of operational data and trends.
  • Provide analytical support to interdepartmental initiatives.
  • Work with multiple business areas to create workflows, test and implement operational system enhancements that support the strategic goals.
  • Help to advance projects while also eliminating unnecessary work

 

Bring Your Best! What this role needs:

 

  • Completion of Sophomore or Junior year of undergraduate program with a Finance, Investments or similar concentration.
  • Experience working with Excel spreadsheets, workflow software (Visio) a plus but not needed, we will train.
  • Strong analytical, problem solving and decision making skills with competencies in finance and accounting.
  • High degree of personal initiative, demonstrated ability to work independently, excellent follow-through ability and sense of personal accountability.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and the ability to deal effectively and professionally with people at all levels of Northwestern Mutual

 

Desirable Qualifications

  • Demonstrate proficiency and interest in investments and investment analysis
  • Strong Excel, Word and PowerPoint skills
  • Experience with data analysis

 

*This Internship will be held during the summer and part-time during the school year at our Franklin,WI location.
